Take Part in a Labor Walk
There are just a few weeks left until the elections. At both the national and state levels, there are important races that will decide control of the government. It is important that we have representatives in both Albany and DC that stand up for working people. We need elected officials who will invest in infrastructure projects and will fight to protect prevailing wage laws and apprenticeship language. To make sure that these people get elected, I am asking every member to take part in a labor walk. Anyone that participates is now paid $50 per shift. Below our Political Coordinator Josh Slaughter has provided some information on what labor walks are and how you can get involved.
Labor walk's are a combination of knocking on doors to try and talk to people if they're home and/or just leaving campaign literature at about half the doors where no one is home. We've been using the term labor walk because these are done in concert with the LI Federation of Labor and other labor unions. Also we ONLY go to labor union households.
We usually go out in groups of 2 or 3 (you decide who) with a list of about 30-45 houses to hit. (of course people who are pumped can do more). Usually takes a couple hours. Volunteers are given lists, script, map, etc. Pretty much always done by about lunchtime.
A number of us have done these many times and have never had an issue. When you do get to talk to anyone most are appreciative of what you are doing. All research shows this is by far one of the most effective ways to campaign.
