Laborers 66 Hosts Meeting on Using Union Labor at SUNY
Laborers Local 66 hosted fellow local union trades' representatives from the Nassau/Suffolk Building Trades Council as well as the New York State Senators and Assembly members representing the three SUNY campuses on Long Island to discuss the urgent need for Project Labor Agreements (PLA) for all SUNY construction on Long Island. Worker exploitation through wage theft, worker misclassification, and other illegal activity has led to the deterioration of prevailing wage enforcement on taxpayer-funded projects, which puts law-abiding local contractors and workers at a competitive disadvantage while costing taxpayers money through fraud and abuse. PLA's will ensure local jobs are created for local workers who will be paid the proper wages and benefits needed to support and grow the middle class here on Long Island.
